For many parents the digital world of your teenager can seem like an endless sea of apps, chats and websites and leaves many parents feeling like they are struggling to catch up – but how do you know what is safe and where do you go to find out information?

Some of the following websites are excellent resources for parents to help keep in touch with online trends to support your child and ensure they are safe: 

  • NSPCC net aware – This website provides parents with information on apps that are currently popular with most young people.
  • H2Bsafer – Help for parents on how to configure privacy settings for devices and social media accounts, safer searching, blocking certain communications and reporting safety issues. You can select your device on this website and get specific online tutorials – a handy tool!
  • Thinkuknow  - A brilliant advice portal which gives you direct links for reporting abuse.
  • Internet matters – An excellent resource for parents which covers many of the issues teenage users face today
  • UK safer internet centre – A parental guide to technology and advice for parents on how to set up the internet parental settings in your own home.
  • Common sense media – A review centre for parents of different apps teenagers like to use giving information about certain apps and social media platforms.
